Putting together puzzles has been a family activity for us over many years.
Have you considered the process of putting together a puzzle? We would start putting similar picture parts in one group, then subdividing by the shapes. Typically each piece has both “innies” and “outies”, which connect to form the picture. Like the Body of Christ each of us is fit together with others. In 1st Peter we are called “living stones”. Each has strengths and weaknesses that come together to form the expression of Christ on earth. We need each other, and everyone has something of value to bring to the table.
Once I had a dream where I walked into a room filled with many tables where people were putting puzzles together. As I entered, I was given a handful of puzzle pieces and told which table to join. We didn’t have the big picture, so we just had to build as we found the fitting pieces. Most everyone had blue and white pieces. Mine were red and orange. I thought “I must not be at the correct table.” More and more of the picture formed until we could see it was a blue and white sailboat on the water with a blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds. It was getting closer to the completion and I still held my red and orange pieces. Looking around at the other tables to see if there was a need for my pieces somewhere else, or if the host had made a mistake sending me to this table, I began to feel anxious and displaced. “My pieces and I don’t fit at this table.” Then, as the picture was almost completed, I saw where my pieces fit into the picture. They were the flags flying atop the mast on the sailboat. I did have something to contribute after all. My pieces did fit at that table. There wasn’t a mistake.
Sometimes in our lives we can feel like misfits or outcasts. But God in His marvelous creativity made each of us with a different gift mix, various talents, strengths and weaknesses and He knows just where we need to be for our destiny. He has placed us in the right spot for the right time. Don’t give up before He is able to reveal His plans and purposes to you. His plans are for good, to give you hope. Even if you don’t see it yet, you can trust that He has placed you strategically so He will be glorified and you will be fulfilled. He makes beautiful pictures out of our lives, and restores each of us to His design as we yield to the Master. You are the only you He created. Never before and never again has there been you. Be who you are and reflect God’s light in your uniqueness.
