Catholics, Politics, and Rendering unto Caesar

Churches across America proudly display the American flag next to the cross.

Obeying the established government has Biblical roots for many denominations.   Christian German youths signed up for service in the Wehrmacht so as not to rock the governmental boat.

But even the most pacifist, turn-the-other-cheek Christian has his limits.  Even cowards draw the line somewhere.  Yes, God has enabled us to act, not passively pray for our deliverance from evil.  We do what we can for this life, before passing on to the next.  Christ’s example can’t be ignored or explained away.

Governments in Europe and America are lobotomizing Christianity whenever possible.  They learned this from the Communists. Governments want a secular world that is beholden to no higher principle than the legal system.  Management wants to be restrained only by statistics, not morals or traditional values.

Catholics have awakened to the fact that abortions and contraceptives and divorces are social adjuncts to a popular culture committed to gay, lesbian and heterosexual sexual profligacy.  Sex sells, doesn’t it?  Obama and Romney are not much different perhaps in being aloof from core values that transcend statistical social advantages.

The Catholic Church has decided that enough is enough.  The secularized destruction of Christian America won’t go unchallenged.  The just-released movie For Greater Glory shows that the church won’t be a silent witness to its own destruction.

The church is realizing that political machinations have moral and religious consequences which can’t be ignored.  A new militancy is making itself known even on YouTube:

Nice cinematography, nice music and graphics. It doesn’t mean a thing. There is only one effective way to oppose the State. Stop supporting it. Stop voting, and above all, stop paying taxes. Anything less is capitulation, and renunciation of the principles Jesus taught.
