What Citizens Need To Do – Really

America was founded on the Word of God. Our founding fathers were for the most part Christians. George Washington was a devout Christian and the primers that were used in our public schools for the first 200 years were totally based on Bible. It was expected that the Bible would be taught in our schools and in fact people were expected to learn to read so they could read the Bible. So what happened? Why are prayer and the Bible excluded from our public schools today? Why is the mainstream media so anti-Christian? Why is Hollywood constantly making fun of Christians and their beliefs?

It began in the late 1800s when Darwin introduced his theory of evolution. After that the progressive movement got started. This movement believed the Constitution could be altered to suit the culture of the time. It is referred to as a living, breathing document. Meanwhile Christians paid no attention to what was really going on. In fact we saw the church gradually turn away from the absolutes that are taught in God’s Word. This is exactly what happened to Israel in the Old Testament when they turned to foreign gods and began to forsake the one true God.

We have seen a parallel in the church. Many pastors have stopped preaching and teaching the Word of God and this started to happen around the turn of the last century. Of course there have always been a remnant that has stayed true to God and I believe that it is this remnant that has kept our nation from totally being destroyed. But even the remnant has been cowed into silence for far too long. We stood by while they took the prayer out of our schools. We were silent while the Supreme Court foisted Roe vs. Wade on us. The church has been woefully ignorant of both the Bible and the Constitution. Statistics show that only a small percentage of Evangelical Christians have a Biblical world view. This is because too many have heard a social gospel instead of the real gospel being preached from pulpits all across the land.

But in the past year, we are beginning to see a miracle. It is like the hand of God is moving on people all across this land. Christians and even people who aren’t Christians are beginning to stand up all over the country and say, “Enough!” They are starting to read the Constitution because instinctively they are beginning to see that as a nation we haven’t been following it. Christians are beginning to speak out more against abortion, the gay agenda and all the radical left agenda because they see how wrong it is. God is exposing the lies and the corruption and the people are seeing it and growing concerned and angry. They know they have been duped.

When Israel got rid of their idols and turned back to God, God blessed them. When America turns back to God and throws away their idols, God will bless her once again. One idol that is being worshipped is money. This is manifested in the way people vote. If they are putting their trust in Washington they are serving the idol of man. The progressives want us to worship them so they can have power over everyone else. Jesus said the way is narrow that leads to eternal life and broad is the way that leads to destruction. What we have seen happening is that people have chosen the easy way and allowed the government to fix the problems instead of seeking God to do it. The church has allowed the government to do the job God has given them to do. Jesus told us the church to take care of the poor, the widows and orphans. He didn’t tell us to tell the government to do it. But it is hard to walk this road so we want to take the easier road. It would take sacrifice to get off the nanny state and take responsibility for our own lives, for our own health care, our own businesses, and our own children’s educations. It is much easier to let the government do it. To get out from under the government’s control over our lives would mean we may have to do with a lot less for a while. We would have to take more responsibility which would take more of our time. We would have to all work together as a church which means we would have to all get along. That is what the early church did and there wasn’t anyone among them who were hungry or lacked for anything. They didn’t depend on Rome to feed and clothe them. In fact they were enemies of Rome. Maybe it is time we become enemies of Washington and I don’t mean break the law. I mean refuse to rely on Washington anymore and instead rely on God. Maybe we are starting to head in the right direction. People are beginning to see that freedom isn’t free. They are starting to fight for their freedom. They are beginning to pray.

Perhaps it isn’t too late for America. Perhaps we are heading into the last great revival before Jesus comes.
